Queen Victoria: family, contribution

Queen Victoria was born on 24th May 1819 in Kensington Palace, London. When Queen Victoria was 18, she came to the throne. She spanned for 64 years, from 1837 - 1901.

When the Queen was 21 years old, she married her cousin, Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha, a German Prince. They got married at the Chapel Royal in St. Jame`s Palace in 1840 on the 10th February.

Britian became the most powerful country in the world, with the largest empire that had ever existed, ruling a quarter of the world`s population.

Because of the number of people living in britian doubled, it caused a huge demand for food, clothes and housing.

People were able to travel around the world more easily now, because of the railways, that were originally built to transport different goods.

Factories and machines were built to meet this demand and new towns grew up, changing the landscape and the ways people lived and worked.
